INDIANAPOLIS (Dec. 9, 2010) – In celebration of the Centennial Era of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which will mark the 100th anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500 in May 2011, the Indy Racing Experience is proud to offer its inaugural Legends Day – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 60 lucky race fans.

Scheduled for May 23, 2011, the Monday prior to the 2011 Indy 500, Legends Day will feature three IndyCar icons – Mario Andretti, Arie Luyendyk, and Johnny Rutherford – giving 2-seater rides at 180 miles per hour around the historic Brickyard.

“Over the past 10 years the Indy Racing Experience has been fulfilling the dreams of race fans worldwide by allowing them to drive or ride in an Indy car at the greatest race course in the world,” said Indy Racing Experience co-owner Scott Jasek.  “And while all three of these legends have previously piloted the 2-seater, never before have we brought them together for a day like this.  This will be a very memorable experience for these lucky fans and a great way for us to contribute to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Centennial Era Celebration.”

The name “Andretti” is synonymous with auto racing and when you think of an IndyCar legend, you think of Mario Andretti.  Forever linked to his 1969 Indianapolis 500 victory, Andretti captured his final IndyCar win in April 1993, becoming the first driver to win IndyCar races in four different decades and the first to win automobile races of any kind in five.

Luyendyk is a two-time winner of the Indy 500 and known throughout the auto racing circuit as the fastest man to have ever raced at Indy.  In addition to his wins in 1990 and 1997, he owns the single-lap qualifying record speed of 237.498 miles per hour and 4-lap qualifying average record speed of 236.986 miles per hour, set back in 1996.  The three-time Indy 500 pole winner also set the record for fastest average winning speed of 185.981 miles per hour when he claimed his first Borg Warner Trophy in 1990.

Rutherford is one of nine drivers to win the prestigious Indy 500 race at least three times.  Affectionately known as “Lone Star JR,” the IndyCar legend captured “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” in 1974, 1976 and 1980. In his last two Indy 500 victories, Rutherford started from pole position.

The group of three drivers, which have combined for six Indianapolis 500 victories, will also take part in festivities outside the car, ranging from breakfast, lunch and a cocktail party with the Legends Day participants, as well as both a Q&A and autograph session.

The Legends Day package is $3,500 per person, and includes all the amenities above in addition to a custom helmet and a framed photograph with all three legends on the famed Yard of Bricks.  A complete schedule can be found at IndyRacingExperience.com.  Group sales and sponsorship packages are also available for this exclusive event.
