Fans now have opportunity to drive around historic track on May 27

INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 3, 2009) – The Indy Racing Experience announced Tuesday an addition to its 2009 schedule at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Race fans and thrill seekers will now have another opportunity to drive around the world’s most famous track on Wednesday, May 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.

The new date, coupled with the Tuesday, May 26 driving date, will provide IndyCar followers a chance to get behind the wheel on consecutive days just shortly after the running of the 93rd Indianapolis 500.

The Indy Racing Experience driving program currently features four cars that boast actual Indy 500 history.  The four-car fleet, which is currently running in Orlando at the Walt Disney World® Speedway, features a G-Force that Brazilian Felipe Giaffone qualified fourth, led 12 laps, and placed third with in the 2002 Indy 500.  Giaffone took another Indy Racing Experience single-seater from 33rd to 10th in the 2001 event, while Jeff Ward drove an A.J. Foyt Racing car to fourth after qualifying sixth in 2000.  That same year, the Indy Racing Experience’s fourth car was one of two cars entered by Chip Ganassi Racing for Juan Pablo Montoya.  The Colombian driver hit a top speed of 222.102 mph in the car over 90 laps of practice, but did not attempt to qualify the car.  He later took the second Ganassi entry to victory lane after leading 167 of 200 laps in the race.

Patrons of the Indy Racing Experience can also speed around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway prior to this year’s Greatest Spectacle in Racing from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 18.  Additional drive dates include Wednesday, July 15 and Friday, July 17, both of which will be all-day sessions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The three-lap drives around the famed 2.5-mile circuit are $499.

Fans looking to drive at the Walt Disney World® Speedway can do so daily at a rate of $399 plus tax for eight laps around the 1-mile tri-oval.
